We stayed at Janny's Cottage, nestled in secluded countryside yet only 10 minutes from Fort William during October 2004 & September 2005. The cottage, in the tiny hamlet of Tomacharich, enjoys outstanding views of the magnificent north face of Ben Nevis and Nevis Range Ski Centre

Details on walks & other activities are shown in the tables below; Ben Nevis was also ascended during the second stay climbing through cloud from 2000' which unfortunately didn't lift as hoped

Travelled Friday/Saturday 1/2 October 2004

The journey was broken into two by stopping overnight at Lockerbie and continuing the next day through the lowlands of Scotland to Glasgow and alongside Loch Lomond and across Rannock Moor through Glen Coe to reach Fort William

04.10.04 5 4¼ Glen Roy and the Parallel Roads A walk from along Glen Roy through the Parallel Road to Roy Falls and beyond Cloudy with bright spells turning wet with strong winds

05.10.04 - - Sunart, Morvern & Moidart Crossing Loch Linnhe by ferry at Corran following the side of Loch Linnhe to Loch a Choire and onto Loch Sunart, Loch Sheil & Loch Ailort Sunny spells with scattered heavy showers

06.10.04 - - Isle of Skye A tour from Fort William to Mallaig, car ferry to Armadal, tour of the Cuillin Hills, returning across the Kyle of Lochalsh and Invergarry Bright spells with blustery showers

07.10.04 5½ 5 The Heights of Kinlocheven A return walk up the mountain track to the summit of Britain's highest mountain starting from the visitor centre in Glen Nevis Bright and sunny but cold with snow on the summit

08.10.04 12 8¼ Ben Nevis from the visitor centre in Glen Nevis A return walk up the mountain track to the summit of Britain's highest mountain starting from the visitor centre in Glen Nevis Bright and sunny but cold with snow on the summit

09.10.04 3 2¾ Nevis Range Gondola Walk A walk to the viewpoints on Meall Beag & Sgurr Finnisg-aig from the Snowgoose Restaurant gondola station on the Nevis Range beneath the ski slopes on Aonach Mor Bright and sunny but cold

The journey was broken into two by stopping overnight at Luss and continuing the next day around the coast via Oban to reach Fort William

13.09.05 4½ 2 Lock Arkaig A short stroll along the southern side of the loch Wet, very wet

14.09.05 - - Isle of Mull A tour from Fort William crossing Loch Linnhe by the Corran Ferry then onto Mull from Lochaline to Fishnish Cloudy with some bright spells & occasional rain

15.09.05 6 5½ Stob Ban An 'out & back' walk onto Stob Ban Sunny & warm with cloud developing producing a short sharp shower at the end of the walk

16.09.05 - - Inverlochy Castle

Train journey from Fort Willian to Mallaig A visit to the ruins of Inverlochy Castle followed by a train journey from Fort William to Mallaig Bright and sunny after a dull start
